Managing type 1 Gaucher disease can also include care to help with your symptoms, alongside any treatment you receive. This care will be specific to you and could include:
Temporary rest or taking pain-relief medicine for severe bone pain
Medicines called bisphosphonates that help slow down bone thinning
Bone surgery or joint replacement
Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or massage therapy to help with pain
Support from a psychologist to help with feelings and emotions
If you have type 1 Gaucher disease, know that it can worsen over time – even if you are well. Talk to your doctor about any concerns or questions you may have. Attend all of your check-ups for tests and scans.
